Help with military medals with a tux?

The groom is a former Marine, he was medically discharged a few years ago. He can of course wear his uniform for the rest of his life, but would like to wear a tux with his medals as he is no longer active duty. He knows the standards of wearing them with his uniform, but never worn them with civilian attire but has seen it done with other people wearing a tux.
Miniature, just like on the “mess dress” uniforms, it is acceptable to wear miniature medals on formal civilian garments (miniature combat and skill badges are also acceptable with formal wear). They are worn on the same lapel as the mess dress uniform. This is a much more common practice in other countries (often the full size versions which are only appropriate for full dress uniforms), but I think it’s pretty cool for people who have served to do it when in formal wear. See 1 below (”…and on the left lapel of formal civilian attire, when wear of Army uniforms is inappropriate or not authorized..”) all branches have similar regulations , the idea is that you earned the medals and they are yours for the rest of your life (assuming honorable discharge) and that you should be able to wear them even if you aren’t in the Service for a career or retired :

a. Miniature medals are replicas of regular size medals, made to a scale of one-half the size of the original. Except for the Medal of Honor, for which there is no miniature, only miniature decorations and service medals are authorized for wear on the mess and evening mess uniforms. Personnel will not wear full-size medals, service and training ribbons, or U.S. and foreign unit award emblems with miniature medals. Only the dress miniature-size combat and special skill badges are worn with miniature medals.
b. Miniature decorations and service medals are authorized for wear on the following uniforms.
(1) Male personnel. On the Army white and blue uniforms, the white and blue mess and evening mess uniforms; and on the left lapel of formal civilian attire, when wear of Army uniforms is inappropriate or not authorized. Miniature badges are authorized for wear on the AG shade 415 shirt. (See para 29-17b for wear of combat and special skill badges with miniature medals; see paragraphs 29-17c and 29-18d for wear of combat and special skill badges on the AG shade 415 shirt.) ”
